HB-net: Holistic bursting cell cluster integrated network for occluded multi-objects recognition

Within the realm of image recognition, a specific category of multi-label classification (MLC) challenges arises when objects within the visual field may occlude one another, demanding simultaneous identification of both occluded and occluding objects. Traditional convolutional neural networks (CNNs) can tackle these challenges; however, those models tend to be bulky and can only attain modest levels of accuracy. Leveraging insights from cutting-edge neural science research, specifically the Holistic Bursting (HB) cell, this paper introduces a pioneering integrated network framework named HB-net. Built upon the foundation of HB cell clusters, HB-net is designed to address the intricate task of simultaneously recognizing multiple occluded objects within images. Various Bursting cell cluster structures are introduced, complemented by an evidence accumulation mechanism. Testing is conducted on multiple datasets comprising digits and letters. The results demonstrate that models incorporating the HB framework exhibit a significant 2.98%2.98\% enhancement in recognition accuracy compared to models without the HB framework (1.02981.0298 times, p=0.0499p=0.0499). Although in high-noise settings, standard CNNs exhibit slightly greater robustness when compared to HB-net models, the models that combine the HB framework and EA mechanism achieve a comparable level of accuracy and resilience to ResNet50, despite having only three convolutional layers and approximately 1/301/30 of the parameters. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for improving computer vision algorithms. The essential code is provided at https://github.com/d-lab438/hb-net.git

A Novel High-performance Implementation of CRYSTALS-Kyber with AI Accelerator

Public-key cryptography, including conventional cryptosystems and post-quantum cryptography, involves computation-intensive workloads. With noticing the extraordinary computing power of AI accelerators, in this paper, we further explore the feasibility to introduce AI accelerators into high-performance cryptographic computing. Since AI accelerators are dedicated to machine learning or neural networks, the biggest challenge is how to transform cryptographic workloads into their operations, while ensuring the correctness of the results and bringing convincing performance gains. After investigating and analysing the workload of NVIDIA AI accelerator, Tensor Core, we choose to utilize it to accelerate the polynomial multiplication, usually the most time-consuming part in lattice-based cryptography. We take measures to accommodate the matrix-multiply-and-add mode of Tensor Core and make a trade-off between precision and performance, to leverage it as a high-performance NTT box performing NTT/INTT through CUDA C++ WMMA APIs. Meanwhile, we take CRYSTALS-Kyber, the candidate to be standardized by NIST, as a case study on RTX 3080 with the Ampere Tensor Core. The empirical results show that the customized NTT of polynomial vector (n=256,k=4n=256,k=4) with our NTT box obtains a speedup around 6.47x that of the state-of-the-art implementation on the same GPU platform. Compared with the AVX2 implementation submitted to NIST, our Kyber-1024 can achieve a speedup of 26x, 36x, and 35x for each phase

A cytomegalovirus peptide-specific antibody alters natural killer cell homeostasis and ss shared in several autoimmune diseases

Human cytomegalovirus (hCMV), a ubiquitous beta-herpesvirus, has been associated with several autoimmune diseases. However, the direct role of hCMV in inducing autoimmune disorders remains unclear. Here we report the identification of an autoantibody that recognizes a group of peptides with a conserved motif matching the Pp150 protein of hCMV (anti-Pp150) and is shared among patients with various autoimmune diseases. Anti-Pp150 also recognizes the single-pass membrane protein CIP2A and induces the death of CD56bright NK cells, a natural killer cell subset whose expansion is correlated with autoimmune disease. Consistent with this finding, the percentage of circulating CD56bright NK cells is reduced in patients with several autoimmune diseases and negatively correlates with anti-Pp150 concentration. CD56bright NK cell death occurs via both antibody- and complement-dependent cytotoxicity. Our findings reveal that a shared hCMV-induced autoantibody is involved in the decrease of CD56bright NK cells and may thus contribute to the onset of autoimmune disorders

Novel Human Bocavirus in Children with Acute Respiratory Tract Infection

Human bocavirus (HBoV) and HBoV2, two human bocavirus species, were found in 18 and 10 of 235 nasopharyngeal aspirates, respectively, from children hospitalized with acute respiratory tract infection. Our results suggest that, like HBoV, HBoV2 is distributed worldwide and may be associated with respiratory and enteric diseases

A simulation study on the measurement of D0-D0bar mixing parameter y at BES-III

We established a method on measuring the \dzdzb mixing parameter yy for BESIII experiment at the BEPCII e+e−e^+e^- collider. In this method, the doubly tagged ψ(3770)→D0D0‾\psi(3770) \to D^0 \overline{D^0} events, with one DD decays to CP-eigenstates and the other DD decays semileptonically, are used to reconstruct the signals. Since this analysis requires good e/πe/\pi separation, a likelihood approach, which combines the dE/dxdE/dx, time of flight and the electromagnetic shower detectors information, is used for particle identification. We estimate the sensitivity of the measurement of yy to be 0.007 based on a 20fb−120fb^{-1} fully simulated MC sample.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure

Paternal Origins and Migratory Episodes of Domestic Sheep

The domestication and subsequent global dispersal of livestock are crucial events in human history, but the migratory episodes during the history of livestock remain poorly documented [1-3]. Here, we first developed a set of 493 novel ovine SNPs of the male-specific region of Y chromosome (MSY) by genome mapping. We then conducted a comprehensive genomic analysis of Y chromosome, mitochondrial DNA, and whole-genome sequence variations in a large number of 595 rams representing 118 domestic populations across the world. We detected four different paternal lineages of domestic sheep and resolved, at the global level, their paternal origins and differentiation. In Northern European breeds, several of which have retained primitive traits (e.g., a small body size and short or thin tails), and fat-tailed sheep, we found an overrepresentation of MSY lineages y-HC and y-HB, respectively. Using an approximate Bayesian computation approach, we reconstruct the demographic expansions associated with the segregation of primitive and fat-tailed phenotypes. These results together with archaeological evidence and historical data suggested the first expansion of early domestic hair sheep and the later expansion of fat-tailed sheep occurred ∼11,800-9,000 years BP and ∼5,300-1,700 years BP, respectively. These findings provide important insights into the history of migration and pastoralism of sheep across the Old World, which was associated with different breeding goals during the Neolithic agricultural revolution
